What answer engines look for before they'll cite you.
Fifteen checks across content structure, structured data, authority signals and the manual testing no tool can do for you. Not a live ChatGPT check — that needs a backend no free tool has — a scored list of the things actually correlated with getting cited, plus the exact prompts worth typing yourself.

3 checksPrompts worth typing yourself: "What is [your brand]?" · "Best [your category] for [your audience]?" · "[Your brand] vs [a named competitor]" · "How does [the problem you solve] actually work?" Run each in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overview separately — they draw on different signals and rarely agree.

What each category actually looks like
Content Structure
Fails: "Our Approach to Digital Marketing" as an H1, three paragraphs of scene-setting before the actual answer. Passes: "Native ads cost ₹40–₹120 per click in India, depending on placement type" as the first sentence — quotable, specific, no scene-setting required.
Structured Data & Machine Readability
Fails: An Article schema block with "author": "Admin" and no datePublished. Passes: The same block with a named author, a linked bio, and both datePublished and dateModified — all three are what an answer engine checks before trusting a claim enough to repeat it.
Authority Signals
Fails: A claim like "the leading platform" with nothing backing it. Passes: "Used by three of the five largest DTC skincare brands in India, per our own client list" — a checkable fact an AI can actually cite instead of paraphrasing an opinion.
Testing It Yourself
Fails: Assuming visibility because the page ranks on Google. Passes: Typing "best [category] for [audience]" into Perplexity, finding a competitor cited instead, and noting exactly what their page states in the first two sentences that yours doesn't.
